It's Fire Prevention Week
The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department conducted fire inspections on Oct. 11. Fire Prevention Officer Mike Vadlja took us on a tour of Muskoka Landing to show us the importance of having a fire safety plan. Fire Prevention Week ran Oct. 8-14. Huntsville Public School applies for Aviva Community Fund
Huntsville Public School is closer to their dream of building a fully accessible playground. They are currently looking for your vote to potentially get up to $50,000 through the Aviva Community Fund. You need to register on the Aviva Community Fund website first before you can vote for the project. You can vote up to 18 times. Click here to go to the project page. The deadline to vote is on Oct. 19. The finalists will be announced on Nov.1 and winners on Dec. 5.
Muskoka Oldtimers Food Drive
The Muskoka Oldtimers in partnership with the Manna Food Bank recently held their annual food drive raising over 15 thousand pounds of food and over $4000 dollars in cash donations.
Showing the importance of sprinklers
The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department, the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA) and Muskoka Fire Prevention conducted a side-by-side control burn at Deerhurst Resort on Oct. 3. The purpose was to compare the damage between two structures, one of which was fire sprinkler protected.

The Ontario Pharmacists Association (OPA) has launched PrescribeIT. It's the first e-prescription in Ontario and Remedy’s Rx Muskoka Medical Pharmacy in Huntsville was chosen to launch it. For more information, you can go to Canada Health Infoway or read the OPA Bulletin.
Women of Distinction Nominee Reception
YWCA Muskoka and the Women of Distinction Awards Committee hosted a nominee reception for this year's nominees. The reception was held at the Gravenhurst Opera House on Oct. 6. Maya Roy, CEO of YWCA Canada was there to congratulate the nominees. The list for this year's nominees can be found here. The Women of Distinction Awards Gala will be held on Wednesday, October 25 at the Mark O’Meara Clubhouse, Grandview in Huntsville. Click here for more details.
Huntsville Festival of the Arts' new director
Mallary Duncan is the new director for HFA's/Huntsville Rotary's next production of Oliver. Auditions are coming up in October. Duncan says she is looking for people of all ages and skill levels to come out on Oct. 22 at the Algonquin Theatre.

Dot The T Productions is gearing up for their next production. Billy Bishop Goes to War is set to hit the stage at various locations across Parry Sound-Muskoka and Almaguin, just in time for Remembrance Day. A tour of Huntsville's "hidden gem"
Huntsville's General Committee Meeting on Sept. 27 started with a tour. Council made stops at Memorial Park, Camp Kitchen, Lion's Lookout and Muskoka Heritage Place and discussed opportunities how to revamp and promote theses locations. Mayor Scott Aitchison says he is appealing to council and the public to "dream big".
Pipe Man is here to stay
Huntsville council has defeated a motion to move Pipe Man. Pipe Man was donated to the town by Pipefusion in November 2016. Since then the industrial piece of art has caused controversy over whether or not the location is the right one. The town even issued a survey to get public input. It was a split vote, which was broken by Mayor Scott Aitchison.
