The Senate, Canada's Sober Second Thought

January 31, 2018

Hosted by long-time YourTV on-air personality, Ken Armstrong, this program examines the controversy faced by the Canadian Senate, the history of the institution as well as an evaluation and clarification of its role.

For nearly 160 years, the Senate has been the beating heart of our nation’s government. Created to counterbalance representation by population in the House of Commons, the Senate has evolved from defending regional interests to giving voice to under-represented groups like indigenous peoples, visible minorities and women.

In recent memory, the mere mention of the Canadian Senate brings about thoughts of misspending, deception and scandal. Sadly, the rich heritage of this institution has been overshadowed of late by the wrongdoings of a few.

Ken Armstrong speaks with six Senators to find out more about the inner workings of the Upper House. Each one has their own unique background, agenda and motivation but they all share a hope for the betterment of our country.
