Saturday, August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day. To recognize International Overdose Awareness Day, CK Public Health, in partnership with the Chatham-Kent Drug Awareness Council, have planned events for Thursday, August 29th at Studio One in the Chatham Cultural Centre, 75 William Street North, Chatham. There will be free, walk-in overdose response training sessions at Studio One from 1:00pm to 2:00pm and 2:00pm to 3:00pm. Permanent injury and death from an overdose is preventable, come out and learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an overdose and how to respond. All participants will receive a free naloxone kit as part of their training. No ID, Health Card, or appointment is required. Simply show up! In the evening, the events will continue with a memorial being held at Studio One at 7:00pm. The memorial will be in memory of those who have lost their lives due to an overdose, in support of the countless families in mourning across Canada and around the world, and in solidarity and strength for those living with and recovering from an addiction. Light refreshments will be available at both events. All are welcome.
