The luncheon will also spotlight three young local scholars who will be presented with their official ATHENA Scholarship Awards. This year's recipients are Kiara Clement, Jessica Glazewski and Katherine E. Hirsch. Selection criteria for this scholarship program include community involvement, potential for leadership, academic excellence and inspiration to women to reach their full potential. The scholarships are valued at $5,000 each. The scholarship recipients will be on hand to make a brief presentation about their educational experience and career aspirations. "This scholarship program reflects the ATHENA philosophy, which is rooted in the idea that by elevating people with potential and solid values, we help them to be exceptional role models," said Loretta Stoyka, President of the ATHENA Scholarship Fund (Windsor). "Inspired by their example, others in the community can achieve excellence too." Windsor is at the forefront of the scholarship program and continues to make improvements to the opportunity each year. Tecumseh Seeking Snow & Leaf Angels

12:00 AM — 11:59 PM

The Town of Tecumseh is seeking volunteers for the 2019-2020 Snow and Leaf Angels Program, commencing October 31, 2019, through to March 31, 2020. “Our volunteers are the backbone of many of our programs in Tecumseh,” said Gary McNamara, Mayor of Tecumseh. “The Snow and Leaf Angels are truly angels to many residents in the community and we are so grateful for their time and effort through some of the worst weather, helping those in need.” Snow and Leaf Angels are matched with seniors and persons with physical disabilities living in the Town to clear snow and leaves from Town sidewalks and driveway entrances for those in need of assistance. Last year the eleven volunteers in the program, who were able to support over 20 residents in Town, were recognized at the annual Volunteer Appreciation dinner. Angels are provided with toques, and shovels, where necessary, and are identified to the residents they support. The Program is a great way for families to volunteer together, or for high school students to complete their 40 hours of community service. To learn more about the Program and how to volunteer, visit the Town’s website or contact the Tecumseh Town Hall. Seniors (those ages 65 or older) and persons with physical disabilities can also contact the Town to apply for assistance. Information on this and all Town news and events is available at www.tecumseh.ca, www.tecumsehapp.ca, Twitter (@TownofTecumseh), and Facebook (Town of Tecumseh).

This year marks the 10th anniversary of this local production of The Nutcracker. A beautiful Sugarplum Fairy, a delightful Clara, precocious Fritz and a flurry of snowflakes will take the stage once again in Windsor Ontario. After three sold out shows last year, the company is excited to announce the addition of a fourth performance. This ballet will be performed by 150 elegantly costumed dancers to the much-loved score by Tchaikovsky and will take place December 6,7, and 8 th at the historical Capitol Theatre. The Nutcracker will open Friday December 6 at 7pm and continue through Sunday, December 8 at 2pm. The production is presented by Edmunds Towers School of Dance under the Artistic Direction of Ms. Kristyn Wiklanski. This production has become an annual holiday tradition for Windsor–Essex. You won’t want to miss this production. “We are delighted that we will be performing this holiday classic for residents of Windsor –Essex. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary of our production, we have a few exciting new additions to this ballet. Over the 10 years, we have seen ticket sales grow each year and we are excited to be adding a fourth performance. We are overwhelmed by the success of this production and we are so happy to be presenting again this holiday season,” says Dianne Edmunds, Edmunds Towers School of Dance. “From the costumes, to the sets, to the number of cast members, to the brilliant score, this production will entertain all ages. It truly is a holiday tradition in Windsor-Essex” Tickets are on sale now at the Capitol Theatre Box office - http://www.capitoltheatrewindsor.ca/event/the-nutcracker-5/
