Summer Garden Tour

The Friends of the Rideau Lakes Library invite you to a Summer Garden Tour on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 in support of the Rideau Lakes summer literacy program for children.  The gardens we'll visit are, The Maitland Garden of Hope, Von Berlo Gardens and Rideau Woodland Ramble.  Your ticket includes transportation from one of five locations: Carleton Place, Perth, Smiths Falls, Portland and Elgin Ontario.  Please bring a picnic lunch which you can enjoy in the Van Berlo Gardens on the Banks of the St. Lawrence.  Tickets are $45.00 and are on sale until July 1, 2018.  We require a minimum of 45 participants to make this tour viable.  If cancelled you will receive a full refund.  For further information contact Madeline at lookformadeline@gmail.com or at 613-283-1032.

Pre-show activities start at 7:00 pm with movie starting at dusk (usually around 9:20 pm in July and by the end of August around 8:30 pm). These activities are organized by our community partners and change week to week. In the past groups have had games, facepainting, pony rides, sidewalk chalk on the road, colouring table, lego, bubbles, crafts, bouncy castles and have even brought in Little Ray’s Reptiles Show, Magic Shows and Live Musicians. So it changes from week to week but there is always something to keep you entertained before the show. Concession stand opens at 7:00 p.m. selling hot dogs, popcorn, chips, cold drinks, and cotton candy with .50 cents from every $1.00 going to our community partner. The mission of Movies Under the Stars is help foster a sense of community and enjoyment in Smiths Falls by bringing people together to enjoy a movie in a unique setting along the scenic banks of the Historic Rideau Canal. Elgin Days July 13, 14 & 15 in Elgin, ON

July 13-15 - ELGIN DAYS - IT'S a GO!  Even with the anticipated construction on County Road 8, the community has decided to continue with tradition and have Elgin Days the second weekend of July. Starting Friday night the Elgin Lions offer a Quiz Night and Spaghetti Dinner.  Then beginning Saturday morning participate in the traditional village-wide yard sale and enjoy various other activities from music, BBQ’s, special vendors, parade, bake sales, children’s activities, morning coffee drop-in at the Elgin Municipal Complex, Bethel Church free pancake breakfast and special activities for the whole family. Elgin Lions Saturday outdoor music and beer tent, 9am to 1pm an antique car/motorcycle display, silent auction and in the evening enjoy the firefighters chicken BBQ (at the Lions Hall). On Sunday in the afternoon at the Elgin Lions Hall take your chance at Bingo followed by an evening fish fry and at the Elgin Municipal Complex an ecumenical Worship Celebration at 7pm.

Smiths Falls Movies Under the Stars - Movie: Jumanji - Welcome to the Jungle

Join us for Movies Under the Stars, a 10 week series of free outdoor movie screenings this summer on Thursday nights by the Rideau Canal in beautiful Centennial Park (under the Water Tower) in Smiths Falls. Tonight's movie is Jumanji - Welcome to the Jungle
  • Bring the family and a blanket or a lawn chair and spend your summer evening watching a family-friendly FREE movie on the big inflatable screen. 
  • Pre-show activities start at 7:00 pm with movie starting at dusk (usually around 9:20 pm in July and by the end of August around 8:30 pm). The activities are organized by our community partner and change week to week.
  • Concession stand opens at 7:00 p.m. selling hot dogs, popcorn, chips, cold drinks, and cotton candy with .50 cents from every $1.00 going to our community partner.
  1. Note 1: RAIN/HIGH WINDS: Sorry but the movie will be cancelled if there is rain, possibility of rain or high winds. The decision to cancel a movie will be made between 3-5 pm and posted on our Facebook Page and on our website. Please NO PHONE CALLS check Facebook or website.
  2. Note 2: PARKING: There is a large parking lot under the water tower that can be accessed from Old Mill Road. You can also park at the Swimming area on Park Street, park on Main St. East, George St. S. and Strathcona Ave and walk over to the park. Confederation Drive is blocked off from 6:30pm till 11:00pm for the safety of all.
